Forged Metal Spatulas

At Six North Designs, we believe a kitchen tool should be as enduring as the meals it helps create. Our spatulas are not mass-produced; they are hand-forged at the anvil, blending industrial strength with artisan elegance.

Whether you’re looking for the professional-grade performance and developing patina of high-carbon steel, or the timeless beauty and superior conductivity of our copper-bladed series, each piece is balanced for the hand and built for a lifetime of service.

Elevate your craft with tools forged for the fire.

Caring for Your Forged Tools

A hand-forged tool is an investment. With the right care, these pieces will outlast any factory-made alternative.

The Carbon Steel Series
High-performance and reactive; these tools develop a “story” through their patina.
Wash: Hand wash with warm water and mild soap immediately after use. Never soak or put in the dishwasher.
Dry: Dry thoroughly with a towel. Do not air dry, as moisture can cause surface rust.
Oil: Apply a light coat of food-grade oil (like mineral or grapeseed oil) after drying to protect the steel from humidity.
The Patina: Over time, the silver steel will darken to a blue-grey. This is a natural protective layer—embrace it.

The Copper & Stainless Series
Naturally antimicrobial and rust-resistant, but requires a gentle touch.
Wash: Hand wash only. While the stainless handle is tough, the copper blade is a soft metal.
Polishing: Copper will naturally darken (oxidize) over time. If you prefer the bright “penny” shine, occasionally clean the blade with a mixture of lemon juice and salt or a dedicated copper polish.
Storage: Store in a dry place. Avoid scraping the copper blade against other heavy steel tools to prevent scratches.

A Quick “Never” List
1. No Dishwashers: The high heat and harsh detergents will ruin the temper of the steel and strip the copper’s luster.
2. No Soaking: Leaving your tools in a wet sink is the fastest way to cause oxidation and pitting.
3. No Abrasive Scrubbers: Use a soft cloth or sponge; steel wool will scratch the artisan finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose carbon steel over stainless steel?

Carbon steel is the preferred choice for professional chefs and outdoor cooks because of its incredible strength and heat tolerance. While it requires more care (oiling) than stainless steel, it develops a non-stick patina over time that makes it the ultimate “workhorse” in the kitchen.

Will my copper blade change color?

Yes. Copper is a living metal. It reacts to oxygen and heat, developing a rich, dark “antique” look over time. If you love the bright, polished look, a simple rub with lemon and salt will bring the shine back in seconds.

Are these spatulas safe for non-stick pans?

Because these are hand-forged metal tools with thin, precision edges, we recommend using them on cast iron, stainless steel, or carbon steel pans, as well as outdoor grills. They may scratch delicate Teflon or ceramic non-stick coatings.

What does “Hand-Forged” actually mean?

Unlike “stamped” spatulas cut from a flat sheet of metal by a machine, our tools are heated in a forge and shaped by hand with a hammer and anvil. This process aligns the grain of the metal, making the tool significantly stronger and giving each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind texture.
